It was a pleasure to attend the Detroit Lakes Flyin and to enjoy totally awesome waffles and great company. Despite low overcast weather for much of the morning, the local EAA chapter, lead by Dennis Jacobs, provided an awesome environment for showing appreciation for aviation. There was an excellent turnout of members of the community, including many, many children. For those of you who are in charge of arranging food and drink for your aviation event, check out Dad’s Belgium Waffles (www.dadsbelgiumwaffles.com). Honestly, these were the best waffles I have tasted!
Rich McCrady was there, too, displaying for Wings Flight Training, Perham MN (http://www.wingsflighttraining.net/). Rich has a passion for aviation and it is obvious in his approach to young and old at the Flyin.
Lastly, the energy of the owners of Detroit Lakes Aviation (http://www.detroitlakesaviation.com/) greatly helps keep this airport thriving. These folks took over what appers to have been an ailing airport and have provided leadership to make it the place to be on Saturday mornings for coffee and donuts, fostering the kind of friendships to which aviators flock.
We are strengthened in our belief that aviation is alive and well in Minnesota, and we look forward to promoting these wonderful interactions between the aviation communities and their respective communities throughout Minnesota!
