For those of you who are looking for an upbeat, thriving airport you need look no further than the Aitkin Airport (KAIT). The folks at Aitkin put on a wonderful pancake breakfast followed by delicious brats. The event was truly a celebration of aviation and automobiles, with a big turnout of people who enjoy looking at both vintage cars and airplanes. One could certainly see that the community appreciates their airport, which sports a beautiful grass airstrip to go with a nice asphalt runway. It was great to see many children and young people attending the event, taking advantage of beautiful weather.
In addition to many homebuilt and factory-made aircraft there were a couple of warbirds and Clay Adams, of Nostalgic Wings, was providing rides in his 1929 Curtiss Wright Travelair E-4000 open cockpit biplane.
I should also mention how impressed I was with the business that Adam Forsberg is building there at the Aitkin Airport. He has extensively remodeled the FBO building, which will soon be replete with a control tower-style observation deck.
It is great to see yet another spectacular flyin event in Minnesota. I hope you will take advantage of these events and support aviation by attending! Aviation is Alive and Well in Minnesota! Let’s keep it that way.
