It was a pleasure to hear a presentation Wednesday evening, 1/15/2014, at the EAA Chapter 25 meeting by Canby High School teacher Dan Lutgen and two of the students who won a national Build A Plane Aviation Design Competition. Leah Schmitt and Brandon Stripling were terrific speakers, describing their experience. The competition was sponsored by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). As their prize, Dan and his fours winning students received an all-inclusive two-week trip to Glasair Aviation in Arlington, WA, to build two Sportsman aircraft through the company’s well-known Two Weeks to Taxi program.
The students gave a wonderful slide presentation summarizing their experience. It was such a pleasure to see these bright kids energized by this experience. Kudos to them and to their teacher, Mr. Lutgen! It is terrific to see teachers go the extra mile to provide quality education for their students. It is also nice to recognize that students from a small high school, such at Canby High School, can provide excellent educational opportunities for their community.
Congratulations to the students, to Dan Lutgen and to Canby High School!
