Rinker Buck authored a terrific book entitled “Flight of Passage”, in which he chronicles a flight he and his brother, Kern, made in N4971H, a Super Cub Special, in the 60’s. Chris Nesin and his wife, April, found the original aircraft and it was completely restored with the help of Charlie Aaron. This last weekend Rinker and Kern were reunited with N4917H in Connecticut and you can see video of the reunion at www.flightofpassage.com. Chris and April are in route as I write this, retracing the route used by the Buck brothers. Please take a look their website. All proceeds from the flight are going to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.
You can also follow the rebuild of N4817H on Supercub.org at: http://www.supercub.org/forum/showthread.php?41439-Rebuilding-Flight-of-Passage-N4971H.
This is a terrific story that warms the heart and reminds me of the thrill of flight. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have.
